Getting The Best Performance Out Of Your VW Lupo

The VW Lupo GTI is a very capable car for fast road and trackday use having many design/engineering influences from the ADAC Lupo Cup car. For suspension one of the most popular choices is the KW Inox Variant-1 (V1) as the ride quality is unrivaled. Good alternate options include AP & Weitec who both offer extremely good value coilover kits with the performance and reliability you would expect from more expensive kits. For racing use the KW Inox Variant-3 (V3) coilovers will give full damping adjustment allowing you to fully setup your car for the track conditions.

To improve the power many people change the induction setup with either a panel filter element or an induction kit. The BMC CDA carbon airbox is widely regarded as being the best option for the car. The newly developed Kam Racing manifold for the VW Lupo GTi has been shown to give gains of 10BHP with a 200cell cat. For motorsport use there is a 100 cell cat and decat version of the manifold which will offer more power.

To improve braking performance on the VW Lupo it is common to upgrade to the larger brake discs from the VW Corrado G60. These brake discs tend to be slightly lighter than the standard Lupo GTi front brake discs as they are not as thick, but you may struggle to fit the G60 brake discs under certain wheels. For track use it is recommended to switch to stainless steel braided lines which are very effective in preventing brake hose expansion under braking, allowing all of the applied brake pedal pressure to reach the callipers. Brake pads such as the CL-Brakes RC5 compound will completely stop you getting any pad fade out on track and can also be used on the road as they work from cold.
